The differences in flare response between limbs may represent a useful biomarker to further investigate neuropathic pain. Inclusion of a positive control is imperative for the assessment of novel therapies for neuropathic pain. Three respondents reported neglecting to use harm reduction measures for risky sexual behaviour while under the influence of pregabalin, although they had previously used them predominantly. One respondent always uses measures to reduce the harm from risky sexual behaviour (including under the influence of pregabalin), while the other respondents did not use them even before starting to use pregabalin. Ten studies reported significant improvements in PGIC scores with pregabalin compared with placebo, while three studies found no significant differences between groups (online supplementary appendix table 3).
